Abstract
|
|
|
We experienced one patient who died of the adult respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS) following odontogenic infection. This syndrome is a common life-threatening process with myriad causes and occurs from a variety of diffuse pulmonary injuries
which are
either direct or indirect attacks on the lung parenchyma. Once lung damage occurs, occurs, exudation of fluid and loss of surfactant activity lead to impaired gas exchange and reduced pulmonary compliance. The syndrome presents clinically
nonspecific.
Principles of management include adequate support of oxygen transport, ventilation and circulation employing volume respirators with positive end-expiratory pressure(PEEP). For successful management, high index of suspicion and early examination
of
arterial blood gases are essential.
